Peterborough defeats Kodiaks 12-11

MSL - In Major Series Lacrosse action the Peterborough Lakers improved to 2-0 on the season as they defeated the KW Kodiaks by the score of 12-11 in front of a home crowd of 2,800 Saturday night.

Midway through the third period, the Lakers trailed 10-9 before answering with three straight over the next five minutes leading 12-10 with four minutes remaining. With under three minutes left, Ryan Benesch would add his fourth goal of the contest bringing it within one, but the Lakers would hold off the Kodiaks for their second straight home victory.

Leading the Lakers offense was Matt Giles and Shawn Evans who both recorded three goals and three assists each. Dan Carey registered two goals and three assists for a five point performance while Jason Clark added a goal and three helpers. Cory Vitarelli chipped in with two goals and one assist including the game winning goal.

For the Kodiaks, Benesch finished with a six point performance registering four goals and two helpers. Corey Small (2G, 2A), Jamie Ronney (1G, 3A) and Brenden Thenhaus (1G, 3A) all added four points each in the loss.

In goal, the Lakers Derek Collins picked up his second victory of the season recording 43 saves. KW netminder Mike Poulin registered 50 saves dropping his season record to 1-1.
